If you have a money emergency, don’t panic – we can help! Learn about financial safety nets you have at UCR.
You could also be eligible for more financial aid. Cover lost/reduced income, a catastrophic event, school-related expenses, child care and more!

I need cash right away.
You can get an emergency loan.
- You can get a $500 interest-free emergency loan three times per year. Fees must be current and repayment is due in 30 days or at the end of the quarter (whichever comes first). For more information, review the Emergency Loan Guide.
- You can borrow up to $1000 with no interest with the Henry Ramsey Jr. Emergency Loan. Fees must be current and repayment is due within 30 days or at the end of the quarter (whichever comes first). Learn more.
- Faculty and staff are also eligible for emergency loans. Learn more.

I had a big expense I wasn't expecting.
You can get a budget increase. Funded by loans, budget increases are considered on a case-by-case basis. Request one when you have a big expense such as:
- A computer purchase
- A car repair (not covered by insurance)
- Medical/dental/optical costs

I need money for child care.
- You can get a budget increase for child care expenses.
- Funded by loans, budget increases are considered on a case-by-case basis.
- To request a budget increase for child care expenses, please print the Child Care Verification Form, complete it with your child care provider and submit it to our office.
- Your child can attend UCR’s Childhood Services.
- Subsidized rates are available.

I'm afraid I can't pay my tuition.
You can pay your tuition in installments.
Pay tuition and fees (not covered by grants, scholarships, waivers or loans) in three monthly installments each quarter with a Deferred Payment Plan (DPP). There is a $25 per quarter processing fee. DPP is not available for UCR Extension.

My family had a drastic change in income.
You can request a re-evaluation of your financial aid eligibility.
If your family has experienced a significant loss in income, you may be eligible to request a re-evaluation of your financial aid eligibility.
You must have already submitted a FAFSA/Dream Act Application and have been awarded financial aid. If you are a dependent student according to the FAFSA or Dream Act application, you can appeal using the Dependent Student Change of Income Appeal. If you are considered an independent student according to the FAFSA or Dream Act application, you can appeal using the Independent Student Change of Income Appeal.

I need money for food.
Contact the UCR case managers first. The UCR case managers are the best people to help you find emergency food assistance.
You can also check out special UCR and off-campus programs that offer free food, low-cost food and money for food.

I'm LGBTQ and my family has cut off financial support.
You may be eligible for an emergency grant.
You may qualify for a free emergency grant through The Kalyn Smith-Tranquil'son Memorial Fund. -
I can't afford the GRE.
You can get a fee reduction.
If you have extremely limited resources, you may qualify for a reduced GRE fee. -
I lost my aid because I defaulted on a loan.
You can regain your financial aid eligibility.
You may become eligible for aid again if you show us paperwork that confirms you are now paying your loan back. -
I feel completely overwhelmed!
