Nine Ways to Get a Scholarship

Pay for school with scholarships and graduate with less debt. You can earn scholarships for everything from academic achievement and leadership, to athletics and art. Start researching.

If you are an incoming freshmen, you are automatically considered for these scholarships when you submit your UCR application:

  • Regents Scholarship ($10,000 renewable for up to four years)*
  • Chancellor's Scholarship ($5,000)*
  • UCR Achievement Scholarship, for out-of-state students ($13,500)*

If you are an incoming transfer student, you are automatically considered for this scholarship when you submit your UCR application:

  • Regents Transfer Scholarship ($5,000)*
  • UCR Achievement Scholarship, for out-of-state students ($13,500)*

If you are selected, you will be notified when you receive your admission notification via MyUCR.

*Award amounts may vary.

Apply for UCR continuing student scholarships every December. Applications are due March 2nd.

Committees make selections beginning summer quarter through December. Scholarship recipients will be awarded and notified after the beginning of the upcoming academic year. 

Award amounts vary. Qualifications vary per scholarship. Students must meet satisfactory academic progress requirements to qualify.

Need-based awards are subject to compliance with UCR priority aid application deadlines.

You can apply for several merit-based UCR Alumni Association scholarships for all types of students (freshmen, re-entry, transfer, etc.). Awards range from $800 to $4000.

The Chancellor’s Performance Awards are scholarships of up to $4500 for those majoring in dance, art, music or creative writing. Each department has its own requirements, so you should contact them directly for details. Operation Education Scholarship

  • Be honorably-separated U.S. military veteran
  • Have sustained a service-connected injury since 9/11/2001 that resulted in a physical disability.
  • Be an admitted degree-seeking, UCR student
  • Enroll as a full-time student
  • Deadline: May 15, 2018

Jeremy Robert Harrison Award

  • Junior or Senior enrolled full-time at UCR
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Active participants in school activities
  • Demonstrated leadership within UCR and the surrounding community
  • Deadline to apply: June 15, 2018

Vincent Del Pizzo Senior Scholarship

  • Senior enrolled full-time at UCR
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Active participants in school activities
  • Demonstrated leadership within UCR and the surrounding community
  • Deadline to apply: June 15, 2018

Varner Family Endowed Scholarship

  • Undergraduate student
  • Full time enrollment
  • Student athlete who demonstrates leadership on and off the field and exemplary scholarship
  • Community service involvement
  • Campus involvement
  • Deadline to apply: September 1, 2018

Crankstart Re-Entry Scholarship

  • Experienced a 5 year or more cumulative gap in education after high school

  • Ideally between the ages of 25-50

  • Undergraduate student pursuing a first baccalaureate degree

  • Anticipate participation in the workforce for a significant period of time

  • Must demonstrate financial need

  • Discuss your challenges and/or hardships, academic qualifications, achievements and promise and commitment to obtaining your degree

  • Deadline to apply: September 1, 2018

Osher Re-Entry Scholarship

  • Same requirements as Crankstart Re-Entry

  • Please note: Interested applicants must also apply Crankstart Re-Entry Scholarship

  • Deadline to apply: September 1, 2018

Pam Clute Scholarship

  • Low-income, first generation undergraduate student

  • Majoring in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering & mathematics)

  • Career goals to become K-12 teacher

  • Preference given to students who graduated from high school in Riverside or San Bernardino counties and who are committed to advancing gender equity

  • Deadline to apply: August 15, 2018

 

Earning Scholarships May Impact Aid 

Outside scholarships may impact other resources in your total financial aid award.  All resources intended to cover educational costs must be coordinated due to financial aid regulations. If a reduction of other aid must occur, loans or  Federal Work-Study will be decreased first whenever possible.
